Landscape Photography for Beginners
10 tips that turn ordinary scenery into wall-worthy photos.
1. Chase Golden Hour
The 30 minutes after sunrise and before sunset transform any landscape. Warm light, long shadows, dramatic skies.
2. Include Foreground Interest
Rocks, flowers, a path — something in the foreground creates depth and pulls the viewer into the scene.
3. Use Rule of Thirds for Horizon
Place the horizon on the top or bottom third line — never dead center (unless you're doing a reflection shot).
4. Use HDR Mode
Landscapes often have bright sky + dark foreground. HDR merges exposures to capture detail in both.
5. Go Wide
Use the widest lens/angle your phone offers. Landscapes need space. Panorama mode for really wide vistas.
6. Wait for Weather
Clouds, fog, storms — dramatic weather makes dramatic landscapes. Clear blue sky is boring.
7. Keep the Horizon Level
A tilted horizon ruins a landscape instantly. Use grid lines or level tool in camera app.
8. Use Vivid or Summer Filter
Landscapes love saturation. Apply our Vivid or Summer preset to make colors pop, especially greens and blues.
9. Boost Clarity/Sharpen
Landscapes should be tack-sharp. Add Sharpen +20-30% in editing to enhance detail in foliage and rocks.
10. Darken Highlights for Dramatic Skies
Pull Highlights slider down (-20 to -30%) to recover cloud detail and make skies more dramatic.
